Smart Farmer : Make learning fun with SmartGames

Walking down the aisle at Hamleys store, I stumbled upon SmartGames products, it looked interesting but i wasn't sure how useful it would be. So, I went back home and started to learn more about the games and the game play of SmartGames. I made up my mind to try one of the products,as it looked promising at the first glance itself. With hands-on challenges from easy to difficult ( Beginner to Master levels ) for different age groups / skill levels, I was confident that it would stretch our baby Zavi's brains and was too keen to test these out.  I bought this game for Zavi on his 4th birthday. Zavi isn't really into colouring books or workbooks and would rather love hands on experience, let it be puzzles or any creative game which gives him some way of interaction. I believe the fact that learning tools have a huge role in making difficult concepts seem very simple and understandable.  What's in the box ? SmartFarmer game came with the following, Gameboard Two horses Tw

Monopoly Junior : Financial Affairs

Monopoly is a traditional and much loved board game. The traditional game is more or less a real estate game where we can buy and trade properties, develop them with houses or hotels. The wealthiest player would turn out to be the winner and the players collect rent from the opponents with the intention to drive them to bankruptcy. There are other methods to gain or lose money, i.e. via chances, or players can end up in jail or they cannot move until a particular condition is met and the like. The game has numerous other house rules too depending on the version you buy.  I was wondering how we could introduce the original Monopoly to our little one. Meanwhile Santa arrived during Christmas with this Monopoly Junior as a gift for our little Zavi. I kept wondering whether this game would help him understand and learn a little about money and basic mathematics. He was really pulled in just because of spider man and the electro on the cover although the game has nothing to do with spide

Connect 4 : A great game for children

Another abstract game. Yes this time, it's Connect 4. This game works well with children. Connect Four is a two player strategy game. Each player can choose a color and take turns dropping those coloured discs into the vertical grid. This grid is a 6x7 suspended grid which can hold 42 discs.  The disc falls straight down occupying the lowest available grid. The objective of this game is to be the first person to form a line of four of one's own coloured discs either vertical, horizontal or diagonal lines. The first player can ideally win by playing the right moves. What if the board fills up before either player gets a four in a row, then the game will be declared a draw. During the lockdown, my interest in board games had increased magnifold, and I felt like a kid or more like a teenager. It's a very simple game with many tactical solutions which even allows you to force the opponent to make the moves that you wish, ultimately winning the game. One such simple method is to

Othello : A Minute to Learn, A Lifetime to Master

Strategy board games were played nearly in all societies and cultures throughout history. There are different styles and genres of board games. These are based on chances or strategies and the goal will be to outwit your opponent. However later on, more and more leisure games were also added to the list of board games. Even though video games may seem more engaging, they get obsolete once newer or advanced games or gaming consoles are launched. However this is not the case with the board games, they stay eternal. They are so humble and can be played still today even though they were founded thousands of years back. Here is one such strategy board game which was invented in the 1800s and was modified with a few more additions or a variation of the original in the 1970s. The board game which we are about to review is Othello. Othello is a game which can be played with two players on a 8x8 board. There are sixty four identical discs which is white on one side and black on the other side
